After an extra day at Cape Town, which was due to the delayed arrival of containers, the R/V Sonne finally left the harbor on Saturday morning. Transit to the first working area continues until Wednesday afternoon, while first data, including bathymetry, gravimetry and magnetics are being collected. These tasks are maintained by the watchstanders under the guidance of the responsible scientist Maurice Tivey. There is still a lot of change here, as it is difficult to look at a monitor for a few hours in a room without a window when the waves are up to 5 m high. This challenge still has to be mastered.
